Gun/Weapon Control

So, I've decided I'd like to talk about gun control today.
An age-old question is whether or not guns should be controlled/banned (like in the EU), or relative freedom of guns, such as in the US. Many people have varying opinions on the matter - here's mine:

There will likely never be absolutely no guns in the world. Someone, somewhere is going to know how to produce and manufacture them, and if there are no others, they will make a shitton of profit off of making them. Banning guns for the sake of safety is a bad idea simply because then only the "bad" people will have guns - and that doesn't make me feel safe.

If everyone had guns, much more people would think twice about breaking and entering, holding up a bank, shooting up a school, etc.

If guns were banned, the amount of murders/killings would not decrease - other weapons, mainly knives, would still exist as it's impossible to ban them. Sure, accidental deaths might decrease, but responsibility is a big factor in owning a gun. Responsible gun owners and their families/kids don't accidentally shoot themselves.

So what does everyone else think? Own any weapons or guns yourself? (not too much of a weapons buff - only have a balisong at the moment, but I'm increasing my knowledge [and eventually collection] of them; some fascinating stuff)

Thoughts for third-gen tablets...

Today a friend and I were discussing tablets (specifically the upcoming iPad 2) and something occurred to me that seems quite obvious now. An absolutely brilliant idea for Apple (or really, any tablet manufacturer [Motorola, Samsung, etc.]) would be to focus on including at least 3 cameras - 2 in the front, one in the back. The reason for this is to create a "kinect-effect" - where the tablet can now put 2 images together from slightly different angles and thus "see" in 3D space. This is what Microsoft's Kinect does for Xbox 360, and they are currently developing new and exciting uses for this dual-cam system:

Most people reading this have almost definitely heard about or used the Kinect by now (and if not, do; it's actually quite fun). The new realms that could be opened by incorporating this idea into a tablet are endless. Apps and games would evolve like never before. I'm not sure about possible patents M$ has for the dual-camera system, but I believe if this were to be incorporated successfully into a tablet it would be just as, if not more, exciting than when the first iPhone came out with the then-new touch screen with multitouch gestures etc.

What do you all think of this? Possible for the iPad 3 (or 4)? Think it'll come to fruition in the near future for tablets? The processing power needed would probably be more than the current gen of tablets has, but in a year or 2 technology will obviously be smaller, more efficient, and all that good stuff... so maybe then. If it does happen, I'd seriously think about investing in a tablet as it would revolutionize how we interact with computers and technology as a whole (imho).

Dexter s01

Just got finished watching the first season of Dexter yesterday, and all I can say is wow. To everyone who has not seen this show - go on Hulu, BTN, or wherever you go to watch TV on your computer (or if it's actually on TV and you want to watch it there :p) and start.

A quick summary thus far: a serial killer devoid of nearly all emotion was trained by his now-passed policeman foster father how to use his problem to better society and not get caught, by killing other killers and people who generally deserve it.

Everything about this show is simply great. The acting, per-episode and per-season plot, etc. are all well thought out, and there's just enough sex and violence to complete it. Although Dexter is slightly hard to relate to at first, his character grows on you quickly through the season. I'll be starting s02 today.

Any other shows anyone would like to recommend (besides Weeds and Breaking Bad, which I'll post about in the future; I've caught up to the last season for both.)?

My First Blog

Welcome anyone and everyone to my first post on my first blog. I plan to be pretty active, posting at least once every 2 days with varying content, whether it be music/movie/TV recommendations, something science-y (go chemistry!) or other content that is interesting to me.

A little about me: I am almost done with high school, listen to music nearly all the time (mainly various kinds of metal and various subgenres of electronic), just started getting into good TV shows (have caught up with Weeds, Breaking Bad, and just finished the first season of Dexter), and I guess everyone will find out more along the way of this blog. I'm open to recommendations, criticism, etc. at any time.

Follow me, and enjoy :)
